Welcome to the Friends of the Memorial Fund website. On this site, you can find information and products related to the Friends organization. About the Friends of the Memorial Fund: The Friends is a non-profit, 501 (c)(3), tax-exempt educational organization established in 1998. The Friends was an outcome of the desires expressed by the first group of 500 awardees of the Japan Fulbright Memorial Fund in 1997 (later referred to as the JFMF Teacher program). The JFMF experience in Japan was so profound, JFMF fellows wanted to form a network to promote the JFMF Teacher program, share ideas and follow-on plans, and to help enrich the educational and cultural experiences of U.S. educators. The purposes of the Friends are to: Provide support to the Japan Fulbright Memorial Fund Teacher program; facilitate an organizational network for former JFMF fellows to exchange educational ideas and follow-on plans resulting from their JFMF experience in Japan; engage in educational research; publish and disseminate exemplary projects through the Friends Website http://www.friends-fmf.com/, and other Professional journals; convene workshops, conferences, etc. Members are encouraged to organize community/state/regional/national activities and meetings to share their Japan-related experiences, projects and plans aimed at fostering friendship and mutual understanding between Japan and the United States. Likewise, members may also posit their ideas, projects at professional association conferences, on the Friends Website. of JFMF recipients through letters of support to school districts - school
boards, and notification of JFMF awards to Congressional members
